Nail Salon Owner

At 45 she looks so elegant and young; you can tell by her jewelry, she has incredible class. Beautiful hair and well informed of current political events. Although her English was very limited, it was not hard to understand her.

You could see that she was not your average Salon worker. We began to speak about current events. Her demeanor had changed, after short conversation she noted she had lost everything and government was not doing anything about it. She noted cost of everything was up, taxes are going up and business was down.

It is so hard to see how everyone has been impacted by out of hand economy and move to socialism. She went on to say, how many of her customers have gone out of business and many are out of work and can not find jobs. Specifically people with over 20 years experience.

I asked her where she was from; she said “Vietnam”. I acknowledge that it must have been hard to see millions who died in her country after US pulled out of Vietnam. She remembered a day when they had gone to get what was left over by Americans after they had left. They would sell the items left to feed her family. She was only a child at that time. She noted they were shot at and a person beside her and behind her died. She noted proudly "I was lucky then".

They have come in hopes for freedom, hard work, and freedom to earn and be all they could be; now she is going out of business. She noted many were thinking of going back.

Sorry to see them go, sorry to see how hopes and dreams of freedom dying.
